William H. Macy in FARGO
For television, Macy currently appears as Dr. Morganstern on the hit NBC series "ER." His many other episodic television credits include "L.A. Law," "Bakersfield, P.D.," "Civil Wars" and "Nick and Hillary," as well as the pilot episode of "Law and Order." His movie-of-the-week credits include "A Murderous Affair," "Heart of Justice," "Standoff At Marion," "Andersonville," and the miniseries "The Murder of Mary Phagan" and "The Awakening Land." For cable, he appeared in Showtime's "Texan," which was written by Mamet and directed by Treat Williams, and "The Water Engine," also written by Mamet and directed by Steven Schachter. Macy's stage credits include the Tony Award-winning Broadway production of "Our Town" and numerous off-Broadway productions, including "Oleanna" at the Orpheum Theatre, directed by David Mamet and for which Macy received a 1993 Outer Critics Circle Award nomination as Best Actor; Lincoln Center's "Mr. Gogol and Mr. Preen by Elaine May;" Manhattan Theatre Club's "Life During Wartime" and "A Call From the East,; "Oh, Hell" at the Mitzi Newhouse Theatre; Playwright's Horizon's "Baby With the Bathwater" and "The Dining Room"(later filmed for Great Performances on PBS); Circle Repertory Company's "Twelfth Night" and "The Beaver Coat" and the Ensemble Studio Theatre production of "Vermont Sketches," "Shoe Shine," and "Cross Patch." Mr. Macy is Director in Residence at the Atlantic Theatre Company in New York City, and his directing resume is extensive, including "Boys' Life" at Lincoln Center, and the LA production of "Oleanna" at the Tiffany Theater. He directed the HBO film "Lip Service" which won an Ace Award for Best Theatrical Production. With writing partner Steven Schachter, Macy has written several scripts including an episode of "thirtysomething" and the HBO film "Above Suspicion." He is the Assistant Scout Master of Troop 184, Los Angeles, CA.
