JERRY MAGUIRE
Jerry Maguire (Tom Cruise) is a man who knows the score. As a top agent at SMI (Sports Management international), Jerry is unquestionably master of his universe.

Jerry is handsome, charming, and devoted to his glorious client roster and stunning fiancee Avery Bishop (Kelly Preston), an NFL publicist whose schedule-intensive approach to sex and relationships is matched only by her professional ambitions. Trouble is, Jerry's mind, mouth and soul are usually on automatic pilot. He's good at friendship, but (as his numerous ax-girlfriends testify) bad at intimacy.

In fact, there's absolutely nothing wrong with Jerry Maguire that a sudden dose of failure can't cure. This Man With a Mission Statement is fired by SMI after an ill-considered act of honor: his writing of a stirring, visionary suggestion for SMI's glorious future entitled "The Things We Think And Do Not Say: The Future of Our Business." Jerry's statement -- written spontaneously on an off night -- makes the idealistic conclusions that the company should focus on real caring for fewer clients -- quality rather than quantity. People, and not money, are what really count.

A week after issuing his mission statement, Jerry is unceremoniously fired.

Stripped of his job, his self-respect and a good measure of his identity, the tenacious but hanging-by-a-thread Jerry is forced to start from scratch. He's joined on his journey to redemption by two unlikely allies: Rod Tidwell (Cuba Gooding Jr., a second-tier wide receiver for the Arizona Cardinals who, as Jerry's sole remaining client, stakes his own unstoppable desire for first-tier fame and fortune on his flailing agent; and Dorothy Boyd (Renee Zellweger), a wistful 26-year-old single mother who, inspired by Jerry's Statement and recognizing his potential for full membership in the human race, willingly departs her accountancy position with SMI for a very uncertain future with her new boss.

International star Tom Cruise stars in the title role in Jerry Maguire, a new romantic comedy from director/writer Cameron Crowe and Gracie Films. Produced by James L. Brooks, Richard Sakai, Laurence Mark and Crowe, Jerry Maguire also stars Cuba Gooding, Ir. (BOYZ IN THE HOOD, OUTBREAK), Renee Zellweger (THE WHOLE WIDE WORLD) and Kelly Preston (FROM DUSK TILL DAWN, JUNIOR).

As the writer of FAST TIMES AT RIDGEMONT HIGH ( 1982) and the director/writer of SAY, ANYTHING ( 1989) and SINGLES ( 1992), Cameron Crowe has distinguished himself as one of American film's wittiest and most astute observers of contemporary manners.

Other cast members include Bonnie Hunt (TV's "Bonnie," "Jumanji") as Laurel Boyd, Dorothy's humorously cynical but loving sister and Regina King ("A Thin Line Between Love and Hate," "Clockers") as Marcee Tidwell, Rod's devoted wife and most ferocious supporter, who mercilessly hounds Jerry into working well past the fourth quarter on behalf of her husband. Jay Mohr (TV's "The Jeff Foxworthy Show" and "Local Heroes") is Bob Sugar, the duplicitous SMI agent who cheerfully stabs Jerry in the back and then steals all his clients. Jerry O'Connell (Fox Broadcasting's "Sliders," "Joe's Apartment") is Frank "Cush" Cushman, a laconic, Bukowski-reading college football star and the prime reason for Maguire and Sugar's continuing warfare. Six-year-old Jonathan Lipnicki makes his screen debut as Ray Boyd, Dorothy's intelligent and affectionate son.

Also in the cast is popular music star-turned-actor Glenn Frey as the shrewd Arizona Cardinals owner Dennis Wilburn.

Jerry Maguire, a TriStar Pictures presentation of a Gracie Films production is co-produced by Bruce S. Pustin and John D. Schofield. Lisa Stewart and J. Michael Mendel are the associate producers. The distinguished behind-the-scenes crew includes four Academy Award winners: producer James L. Brooks, honored as best director, writer and producer of 1983's Best Picture designee TERMS OF ENDEARMENT; director of photography Janusz Kaminski (SCHINDLER'S LIST); two-time Oscar-winning film editor Joe Hutshing (BORN ON THE FOURTH OF JULY, JFK); and make-up supervisor Michele BurkeWinter, also a double honoree (QUEST FOR FIRE, BRAM STOKER'S DRACULA). Emmy Award-winner Stephen Lineweaver ("The Tracey Ullman Show," SINGLES) is the production designer, and Betsy Heimann (PULP FICTION, GET SHORTY) is the costume designer. Noted singer/songwriter Nancy Wilson of the popular sister act Heart composed the score and provides two songs, "We Meet Again ( Theme from Jerry Maguire)" and "Sandy." Danny Bramson, whose previous collaboration with Crowe resulted in the smash hit soundtrack for SINGLES, serves as music supervisor.
